The Nakuru county government has begun the process of mapping all businesses in the county to create a database.
Nakuru Finance CeC Joseph Kiuna said that the county lacks a clear revenue target because it lacks a database of business that should be paying taxes to the county.
He said that the county cannot project its revenue targets because it does not know how many businesses exist in the county.
“Currently I cannot be able to tell you how much the county intends to collect in revenue because we do not have a database of who should be paying revenue to the county and how much they should be paying,” said Kiuna
He added that the mapping will include collection of information on the names of businesses, PIN numbers, and physical locations and certificate of incorporation numbers.
According to the CeC the information will then be computed, something he said will help the county project the amount of revenue it should be collecting annually.
Kiuna also added that the county is in the process of automating county payment services which he said will greatly reduce amount of money lost between remittance and banking.
“A lot of money is lost from the point of payment all the way to the banking hall and by automatic our payment services this will be dealt with,” he said.
