Kisii county government has been accused of reducing county bursary funds from 225m to 155m in 2016/2017 budget.
According to Kisii county residents, it is not good for the county to reduce the money instead of increasing the amount to help many of children get educated in the county.
Addressing the press in Kisii town on Sunday residents led by Kennedy Oira accused Kisii county governor James Ongwae of not doing what he promised his residents in the 2016/2017 budget where he said the bursary fund was to be increased to Sh315m to make every ward get Sh7m.
“We are against what the county has done for us, why are they reducing the bursary funds instead of increasing the amount? Our governor said in 2016/2017 the amount was to be increased but it has reduced we are not happy with that decision,” said Oira.
Kisii country Governor James Ongwae said the amount was reduced because the bursary funds of 2015/2016 have not been given to children in the county and it was difficult to increase the amount again
“We reduced the bursary money because 2015/2016 money is there but I promise we shall make sure the education standards in the county improves,” said Ongwae.
