[Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru. Photo/Standard]Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru has said police officers are investigating politicians and local leaders who are inciting Bonyunyu residents in Kitutu Masaba against construction of Bonyunyu dam.
Speaking during a security meeting in Nyamira County on Wednesday, he said, the government will not allow inciters to disturb peace in the region.
"We have launched investigation after we received information that some politicians and local leaders from the region are inciting and facilitating protests against the construction of Bonyunyu dam. Suspects will be arrest and prosecuted," he threatened.
He urged residents of Bonyunyu to be calm and allow the construction of the dam to start because it will not cause any harm.
"Residents will not be evicted from their lands as claimed. The government is keen with the construction of the dam," he said.
He said police will not allow residents to protest opposing the project that is good for all.
"I don't see the reason why residents should oppose a project that will help them with clean for domestic use," he added.
