Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru has urged parents in the region to take good care of their children during this rainy season to avoid unnecessary deaths which may be caused by flooding waters and lightening and thunderstorms.
According to Nakoru, since the rains started no case of floods has been reported.
"Nyamira has been receiving heavy rains in the last few weeks. So fa we have had no dangerous case and we hope we will not experience any bad case.
"Parents should advise their children to avoid sheltering under trees and outside their houses. Unnecessary movements by children should be regulated by parents and guardians,” he said.
He urged parents to take small kids to schools alone and pick them because the minors may be tempted to go and swim in rivers to increased water.
“Kids should be taken to school and picked later in the evening to prevent them from attempting to go and swim. Water levels in rivers have increased and we don’t want to hear that school kids have drowned in water,” he said.
