149 Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms have been built this year alone by the Nakuru County government.
According to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, Sh3.5 million has been set aside by the county government of Nakuru for the school feeding programme in the ECD centres to ensure high pupil retention in schools.
"Our children cannot concentrate well when their stomach is empty. That is why my government has decided to start feeding programmes in ECD centres as well as various schools so that pupils can concentrate well in school and hence learn more,” Kinuthia said.
Speaking yesterday before attending the prayer service held in Eldoret, Mbugua said that his county government had also released Sh.52 million bursary cheques for 17,000 needy students in Nakuru with more money expected in the coming year.
Mbugua at the same time urged all leaders and the private sector to take part in improving the standard of learning in the county.
"With the help from all stakeholders involved, I am left with no doubt that we will tremendously increase the standards of education in Nakuru County,” Mbugua said.
