Kisii Governor James Ongwae has disclosed that the County bursaries will be increased from Sh145M this financial year to Sh225M in the next financial year.
The money will be channeled to the wards and it will address the increasing demand for the bursaries.
There are many needy bright children in the county and therefore the county government saw it wise to increase the money.
Ongwae clarified that, he had held consultations with the County Assembly Members and agreed that in the next financial year, the bursaries to the Counties will be increased to Sh225 million, with each of the 45 wards getting Sh5million.
Speaking at Gusii Stadium, during the marking of this year's Madaraka Day celebrations, Ongwae underscored the importance of the County bursaries to boost education standards and transition rates among bright and needy children in the County.
"I have held discussions with the County Assembly members and agreed that the County bursaries be increased from the current financial year's Sh145million to Sh 225 million in the next financial year, to meet the demands of beneficiaries," Stated Ongwae
The Governor said, since the introduction of the County bursaries, children who would dropped out of school have since benefitted from the bursaries to continue with their education successfully.
