Farmers from Gesima ward in Kitutu Masaba constituency have urged the county government through the ministry of agriculture to have measures in place to improve agriculture in the county
According to the farmers, the county has not done enough in the agriculture sector, despite the sector being the backbone of the country.
They have accused the county government of Nyamira through the ministry of Agriculture of laxity, saying extension officers do not visit them to give basic knowledge about farming.
Most of them they said that they hear through the media that the Agriculture department has done a lot, but in the real sense nothing has been done on the ground.
Led by Sylvia Mochere, they said that they want the county government to come up with a list of things they have done in Gesima ward in aid of improving Agriculture sector.
“Most of us we depend on agriculture, both in cash crop and rearing of livestock, it is unfortunate that the ministry of agriculture has done nothing to improve the sector and help the farmers,“ said Mochere.
“Agriculture is the backbone of this county, so we need the county government to have measures in place which will help farmers continue with their daily activities,” said Atera Makori, a tea farmer.
