Governor Jack Ranguma has been challenge to ensure the Kisumu fire station is equipped with modern fire fighting equipment.
Rose Amalemba from Center for Economic and Social Rights said that it is was not good for Kisumu city to have obsolete fire fighting equipment.
Ms Amalemba who was speaking to this writer through phone on Wednesday said such facilities should have been a priority for the county government.
"This should have been among the first projects to be undertaken by the Governor Ranguma because fire outbreaks are not new," said Amalemba.
Amalemba said the county government should not allow its people to suffer in case of fire outbreaks.
"I have seen people struggle in trying to put out fires, even with the current fire station, the station does not respond to emergency quickly. The station responds when its too late," added Amalemba.
She said in most cases, people use private security firms to put out fires, something that is costly.
"This should not be happening, subjecting people to double expenses. People lose property through fires and at the same time have to pay when they use private firms. The county government should not allow this to happen, " said Amalemba.
