Speaking on Wednesday in a meeting with the university's top leadership at his office, he called upon the university to employ competent security officers at the institution.

He added that the university community must always know each other.

"Know what your neighbours are doing to detect any suspicious activities in the hostels," he said.

Security matters have been emphasised at higher learning institutions following the aftermath of Garissa University College terror attack in April to combat similar occurrences.

The University's chancellor, Prof Godfrey Muriuki, who paid a courtesy call on the commissioner, was grateful to the government for its cooperation, especially on matters security.

The chancellor is on a three-day visit at the university which began on Wednesday. He is expected to inspect the campus faculties, visit other Kisii University branches and address the senate.
