Kisii County residents have been asked to plant more environmental friendly trees to curb floods in the future.
The call was made by Kisii County commissioner Godfrey Kigochi who said Kisii region was experiencing floods due to the ongoing rains since it lacked enough trees.
"The ground is bare without trees reason we are witnessing floods in the region. It is high time residents plant more trees for their own benefit," he said.
Mr Kigochi stated that the fertile soils in Kisii were being swept away by floods due to lack of the trees.
He also warned those who had ignored the governments bun against cutting of trees saying that their days were numbered.
"I now know residents have realised why they were warned against cutting down of trees. I now ask residents to respect the ban for their own benefit," he said.
Kisii County is among counties that have recorded deaths following the ongoing rains.
