Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has insisted that a ban on night operations for bodabodas in the county has not been lifted.

The ban was imposed about two years ago in a move that aimed at curbing increased insecurity cases in Eldoret town and other urban centers across the county.

Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, Hassan warned that any motorcycle that will be found operation outside the stipulated time will be impounded and the owner prosecuted.

He said a majority of the criminal activities in the county have been linked to a motorcycle.

"We've made it clear that operations for bodabodas in this county are between 5.00am and 11.00pm. Anybody found operating outside those times, be it a bodaboda or private motorcycle will have themselves to blame," Hassan said.

"All we are interested in is to ensure our people are secure and it will be good if bodaboda operators stick to those times since many of the criminal cases are always linked to a motorcycle," he added.

The County Commissioner said currently there are over 100 motorcycles impounded by the police across the county for operating past the stipulated time.
