Speaking to the press from her office on Tuesday, Ms Gatobu claimed that area chiefs have been reluctant in carrying out their duties leading to increased cases of illicit brew and distribution of drugs among the youth.

The officer expressed concern over the increased number of chang’aa dens in the area despite distributing motorbikes to security officers in more than five wards to help in flashing out illegal brewers.

“Even after distributing motorbikes to different wards I am still getting the same reports of illicit brew in the area,” she said.

She alleged that the chiefs are reluctant and some of them promote the selling of the illicit liquor by buying and drinking from the same dens.

She urged the chiefs to appoint elders in the community who will be working with them to report various incidents that residents might fear reporting to the authority.
