Speaking on Wednesday during a brief addressing security stakeholders among them community policing officials, Birik emphasised on the need to counter crime with more informed techniques in order to curb insecurity cases.

“Insecurity has been on the rise and technology is ever changing. We therefore need to upgrade ways of combating crime and employing social media to counter insecurity. Some crime acts are perpetrated or planned on social media platforms and therefore the need to incorporate the same in averting crime at its budding stage,” said Birik.

He also emphasised on the need for the members of the public to partner with the police in sharing information that might be useful in heightening security.

He noted that almost all crime cases could be averted if the public is willing to share information with the law enforcers.

“The top most reason why it has been hard to curb unlawful acts amongst us is because they are perpetrated by people who live amongst us and we do not want to name them,” said Birik.

He urged members of public to work closely with law enforcers and assist with any information which will help to boost security.

Birik’s call comes in the wake of increased cases of cattle rustling in the county, which is a spillover of the crime that is rampant in the neighboring Baringo and Turkana counties.
