Nyamira County Commissioner Joseph Rotich has ordered the closure of Chinese gambling machines in the region saying they are breeding grounds for criminals. Rotich noted the rapid rise of the business in the county saying  they will conduct a major crackdown to confiscate the machines and close down the illegal business. He added that many youths, especially boda boda operators, were being held captive in gambling dens where they spend most of their time instead of engaging in meaningful business to improve their livelihoods. He said the business was drawing most youths to crime. "A major crackdown is in the offing to confiscate the machines and close all these gambling dens that have invaded every part of our county. They are unlicensed, besides, they also are hideouts for criminals and we should not allow this", he noted. "The machines are killing our future as most of our youths spend the whole day there playing and not working, the dens are breeding criminals," added county commissioner. Rotich also urged the parents and guardians to monitor their children's whereabouts during this long holidays and prevent them from engaging in bad behavior."I want to call upon parents and guardians that as the long holidays begin, they should ensure that their children are in safe places and that they monitor their movements, they should not be left with too much freedom to engage in bad behavior", he said. He was speaking Monday in his office where he held a meeting with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials, the security team and boda boda operators' leaders.
