Police officers carry an injured colleague following the bandit ambush. plive.co.kePolice in Laikipia have issued a warrant of arrest for two chiefs claimed to have links with armed bandits who shot dead six security officers on July 12.
The arrest warrant was issued five days after another chief, Moses Dike, was arrested after being accused of housing armed cattle rustlers who killed the police officers.
Laikipia County Commissioner Peter Okwayo said on Wednesday police will pursue the two administrators said to be on the run.
“I have ordered for the arrest of the two. We won’t pretend to be good,” he said.
The two, Philip Aremo and Samson Amara, he said, will have to explain their relationship with armed bandits causing insecurity in Laikipia and other neighbouring counties.
Last week, six police officers were short dead after gun-wielding bandits ambushed them at Kamwenje area in Laikipia. They were killed days after four others were killed in the area while pursuing suspected cattle rustlers.
Trouble began when herdsmen repairing an electric fence at the Laikipia Nature Conservancy were attacked by armed Pokot raiders at about 2pm.
A convoy of Anti Stock Theft Unit vehicles carrying police officers was then shot at by the bandits a few metres away, leaving the six dead.
