The Kisumu County Security team has a list of 50 suspected criminals who have been terrorising residents of the lakeside city.

County Commissioner John Elungata said the list has been compiled by the national administration officers on the ground.

Elungata said some chiefs had been afraid to forward the names of the criminals to the relevant authorities for action.

He said the names are now out and the hunt is on to arrest and brings to book the criminals.

“Some of the chiefs were afraid to give us the names, now we have them and I want all the chiefs in the county to be on the alert and report those criminals,” he said.

Addressing all the county chiefs in Kisumu on Wednesday, Elungata directed them to report immediately if they spot those whose names are in the list.

He announced that the security team has mapped out all the crime spot areas and will enhance patrols both day and night.

“We now know the spots for bhang, cattle rustling, gender based violence among others,” he said.

Elungata said the aim is to reduce the crime rate in the county and guarantee locals their safety and that of their businesses.

He said Kisumu has been on the spotlight in the recent past as a result of insecurity and promised to reverse the trend through partnership with the locals.
