Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has raised concerns over what he said was the increase in the sale of banned drugs in the county's capital, Eldoret and nearby urban centres.

Hassan noted that unscrupulous businesspersons have taken advantage of the many learning institutions in the town to sell the illegal drugs to students.

Speaking in Eldoret on Saturday, the County Commissioner, however, warned those involved in the illegal businesses that their days are numbered.

"There has been a rise in the sale of illicit drugs in this town as unscrupulous businesspersons are now targeting the youth, majority of whom are university and college students," Hassan said.

"As a government, we will not turn a blind eye on this situation, security agencies are working to see to it that all those involved in this criminal businesses are arrested and prosecuted," he added.

Hassan has already banned all kinds of parties and bash involving children in the county.Speaking during Jamhuri day celebrations, the County Commissioner said they had information that the parties would be used to sell illicit drugs and alcohol to minors and students.

Eldoret town boosts of over 20 institutions of higher learning 7 of which are campuses for top universities in the country.
