Machakos county commissioner Matilda Sakwa has reminded residents of this region to be weary of land fraudsters.
The commissioner said that incidents of con artists claiming to sell nonexistent land have become rampant in the county. She noted that there are con artists purporting to sell both private and public land at as low as Sh50,000, which is not realist considering the demand of land in the modern market. She noted that over 2,000 acres Dramvelle Farmers a Cooperative Society land in Kamulu, Mavoko, have been unable to access their pieces of land because of these fraudsters.
She was speaking at the county on Saturday after attending a security meeting following increased incidents of crime reported in the area in the recent past.
“The invaders have erected beacons on plots ... some of them are the same people who have invaded the East African Portland Cement Company land in Athi River,” she said, as quoted by Star.
She also assured the residents with legitimate title deeds of government protection, adding that the con artists have invaded Machakos because of its proximity to Nairobi.
“We will protect those with legitimate title deeds on this land. Our mandate as the government is to protect lives and property,” Sakwa added.
