Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki has warned residents against spreading hate on social media.Addressing journalists in his office on Friday, Achoki said security personnel in the county are investigating those propagating hatred in political rallies and other public forums.The county commissioner cautioned politicians against preaching hate, adding that Mombasa County should remain calm as political campaigns take center stage ahead of the repeat presidential election.“We have our detectives who are closely monitoring what is being shared in all social media avenues and I want to assure you no one will be spared,” said Achoki.Achoki said youth who are posting hate messages on social media will also be dealt with according to the law.“We are warning them but if they persist we have their response. Let them carry on,” he added.He also appealed to residents to ensure they report any statements that may lead to clashes especially during the campaign period.Achoki also appealed to community leaders and human right organisations to take charge and ensure no one is spreading hatred targeted at certain communities in the county.Meanwhile, Achoki has called on all politicians in the county to ensure they apply for permits before holding any political campaigns or meetings within the county.“We have no intention of barring politicians from conducting their rallies. We only want to provide everyone with adequate security,” he said.
