Kiambu Deputy Governor Gerald Githinji has reiterated the county’s commitment to ensure interests and welfare of Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) is guaranteed.
Speaking on Friday night during a gala and awards ceremony on Gender and Disability, Githinji said the county government recognises and appreciates the role of PLWD in development.
He stated that the county has put in place measures to ensure disabled persons are engaged in county development activities.
“Kiambu government recognises the role of disabled persons in socio-economic development and is keen to promote their interests,” he said.
Githinji further said that persons with disability have been incorporated in various development committees to oversee socio-economic development.
The Deputy governor urged disabled persons to come out and work with the national and the county government, indicating that the constitution guarantees for their rights and that they should use the opportunity to improve their lives.
Githinji also asked them to apply for government funds and tenders and promote their development, adding that the move will help fight poverty.
The deputy governor also asked county assemblies to formulate policies and laws that will cater for the interests of disabled persons.
Kiambu County emerged the best across the country in incorporating policies to promote the rights and welfare of PLWD. The deputy governor received the award on behalf of the county government.
