The county government of Mombasa has launched a manhunt for house owners who have not installed proper sewerage system around their houses.The search was on Sunday conducted by the county’s Department of Health in collaboration with a team from the sub-county administration and inspectorate, as well as the Department of Transport and Infrastructure.The county officials carried out inspections in various residential areas such as Majengo, where they issued warnings and gave notices to various house owners to maintain their sewerage systems to the required standards.Two house owners were however arrested by the officials from the Health Department over lack of proper sewerage systems.The operation targeted areas reported to lack proper sewerage systems including Majengo sokoni, Majengo Msaji and Musa A in Mvita Constituency.“We have disconnected pipes where sewers were found to be directly connected to the drainage systems and as such preventing proper drainage and endangering the health of residents,” said Rahman Hashim, an official from the county’s Health Department.In total, five people were arrested and charged in Court on Monday.The county has given owners of structures with illegal sewer connections a one-week notice to construct proper sewerage systems.
