The County government of Kisii has been accused of putting little effort against the fight of jiggers in the county.
Locals of Sameta village, have raised concern of neglect by the county government against the fight on jiggers.
Raising their concern through an elder Joseph Oino, they said the county government has done little to help in the eradication of jiggers in the area.
“We depend on Non-Governmental Organizations to come to our rescue yet we have a working government that we voted for,” said Oino.
Oino said their children are dropping out of school due to the menace.
“The Jigger menace needs to be eradicated. It requires the effort of the government, us and this NGO’s to fight it once and for all. We now call upon the county government to come in,” he said.
Oino says a lot of people needed the medical attention but the county government has channeled very little resources to address the issue of jiggers.
“The county government needs to literally get to the ground, employ professionals to deal with the jiggers," he said.
"In the allocation of the county’s resources some portion should be channeled to enhance the fight against jiggers,” he added.
He adds that a jigger free society is attainable only if there are concerted effort to address the situation early, effectively and professionally.
