Nakuru county government has finally come out clear on the new posting at Nakuru’s Level 5 hospital that had elicited mixed reactions from residents.
According to the County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr.Jonah Mwangi, the transfer of the Nakuru PGH medical superintendent was normal and dismissed talk that the transfer was targeted at an individual.
“The changes which affected three hospitals were part of the many changes to come as the county government moves to streamline and transform health facilities with the sole aim of ensuring enhanced, effective and efficient service delivery to the people,” he said.
He added that in the civil service transfers are very normal and what the county did was in line with what happens in civil service, what happened to Dr. Murima was a vertical transfer and not a demotion.
In the changes, Dr. John Murima was promoted to serve as the deputy director of health at the county headquarters and was replaced by Dr. Joseph Mburu as the PGH medical superintendent, something Dr. Murima seemed to be uncomfortable with.
The county Health CeC also reiterated the county’s commitment under the leadership of Governor Lee Kinyanjui towards implementing a health task report which recommended sweeping changes in the county health sector.
“The county government is committed to ensuring full implementation of the health taskforce. As part of the radical changes expected in the Nakuru county health sector, I call on all health workers to be ready to serve in any part of the county where they might be posted” he said.
He added that the county will soon be advertising positions of medical superintendents something he said will ensure that all hospital bosses are hired on merit
The new medical superintendents will serve a three-year contract which will be renewable once.
