Mombasa County officials have defied Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa’s ban on food donations to KCPE candidates during this examination period.

Mombasa Education CeC Tendai Lewa said the plan to distribute food to candidates in different parts of the county still stands.

Speaking to the journalists on Tuesday, Lewa said they were not going to heed to Marwa’s ban since they had already informed parents of the plan.

“Teachers have received messages form sub-county heads telling them not to receive food from the county government. This is a sad state as we had told the parents we will provide food for the children,” said Tendai, as quoted by Baraka FM.

He also said that the county government had set aside approximately Sh6 million to feed the students during the exam period.

“We can’t let all this go to waste; the food belongs to the children and so we are devising ways to ensure that this food reaches the children as it had already been budgeted for,” he added.

This comes after Marwa banned the programme arguing that the items had photos of politicians, which is likely to interfere with the learners’ mindset.
