According to the county communications director Silas Tarus, the traders claiming to be harassed are those who don’t want to pay revenue.

“No trader has been harassed at Matunda market, a border between Kakamega and Uasin Gishu County. Traders who have come out with the fake allegations are those who only want to boycott paying daily revenues,” he said.

Tarus added that no conflict has been reported between the traders and county officers over payment of revenue.

“We have not witnessed cases of conflicts between the traders and county officials over revenue payment. Rights of traders in the bordering markets have been respected and if there is anyone who has been harassed, a report should be made to police officers for legal actions to be taken,” he added.

Taru said some traders at Matunda market in Likuyani sub-county pays revenue to Kakamega county while others pay to Uasin Gishu County.
