Kisumu County politician Dr Hezron Makobewa on Tuesday castigated the culture and social services department in the county government for lack of ideas.
Dr Makobewa said the docket has done little to spur culture in the county yet there is much to be preserved.
He took issue with no show at the burial of celebrated TV comedian Aggrey Bokello who was buried on Saturday.
“Where were they? What was their contribution towards the burial ceremony?” he asked.
Dr Makobewa who has intentions of running for the Kisumu county gubernatorial seat in 2017 said there are many histories in the country that need to be re-written and preserved.
“What will our future children read about Kisumu, how will the future generation know that once live Bokello who uses art to keep people together,” he said.
He noted that there is rich culture in the county, starting with Lwanda Magere, that must be preserved even as a way of attracting tourists.
He said the county is bound to lose a lot if the culture department in the county continues to slumber instead of working for the benefits of the locals.
