The county government of Mombasa has partnered with an Estonian firm to develop a traffic management system.

Speaking to journalists, Mombasa Transport CeC Tawfiq Balala said the government is putting in place all the necessary measures to ensure smooth flow of traffic in different parts of the county.

Balala confirmed that a pilot software in under development by the foreign firm and will be launched in January.

“We are borrowing from their expertise. We have one of their representatives in my office, who is constantly giving me advice on what needs to be done,” said Balala, as quoted by The Star.

For many years, trucks in and out of the town have been leading to traffic snarl ups in the county.

Reports indicate that close to 5000 trucks leave and enter the city of Mombasa on different schedules.

With the new system in place, traffic congestion will be a thing of the past.

Balala assured residents that the county government has plans to spread the exit as well as entry of the trucks into the city to make movement faster.

“We will spread the entry and exit of trucks throughout 24 hours. Every hour we will give a time slot of a certain number of trucks depending on how busy the port is,” Balala said.
