Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Nicodemus Anyang has warned teachers against conducting holiday tuitions.

He said holiday tuitions were against the law and anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law.

“It’s sad that despite the Ministry of Education banning holiday tuition there some few individuals conducting it secretly. I want to send a warning to such individuals that the law will catch up with them soon,” he said in Eldoret town, Tuesday.

“Holiday tuition is outlawed under Section 37 of the Basic Education Act, 2012. Any person who contravenes the provision commits an offense and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding Sh100, 000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or to both,” he added.

He reiterated that April, August, and December holidays give an opportunity to students to relax and learn important social skills through interactions among themselves and with adults while on holidays.

“I call upon the public to act as our watchdog and report any teacher conducting holiday tuition and he promised to take stern actions against them.

“This holiday tuition is just a scheme to siphon money from parents in the name of the completed syllabus. Where were they the whole term? I won’t allow such under the area of my jurisdiction,” he added.
