Addressing journalists in Nakuru on Monday, Wanyoike Wanango said the current state is a health hazard as it is already filled up.

“Failure to plant trees around the site has made it difficult to control blowing away of plastic bags by the wind. This is posing more danger to animals,” he added.

Wanango added: “The county government should prioritise purchase of an alternative dumping site. Alternatively, they should look for short term intervention measures,” said Wanyoike.

Contacted for comment, the county director of environment Kiogora Mureithi said that plans are underway to deploy one dozer in Naivasha to address the challenge.

“Similar challenge is being experienced in Molo and Nakuru town. Proposals will be floated to the county assembly in order to budget for a new dump site in the next financial year,” said Mureithi.
