Nyamira County MCAs have challenged the county Environment ministry to explain where the money allocated for the purchase of a new garbage truck is before action taken against its officers.
The MCAs led by Manga MCA Peter Maroro, noted that the department was allocated funds to buy a new truck to collect garbage from various markets in the county, but so far they have not seen the vehicle.
They challenged the ministry to explain how the funds were utilised.
“The county government needs to ensure the markets are clean for a conducive environment by collecting garbage something which is not being done. There are mounds of garbage at variuos markets which last for more than three weeks before they are collected,” said Maroro.
“We need to know where the money that was set aside to buy the truck is,” added Maroro
They also said the conditions at Chebilat and Ikonge markets are dire due to uncollected garbage.
