The county government of Mombasa has established three health facilities to operate as cholera treatment centers.The county has taken the move following the rising cholera cases in the county.County Health Chief Officer Dr Khadija Shikely said the centers will play a key role in handling cholera cases and any other ailments that need swift interventions, especially at the grassroots level.Shikely said the treatment centers will also help in decongesting Coast Provincial General Hospital where multiple emergencies treatment is being provided.The centers are located at Majengo Dispensary in Mvita Sub-County, Portrietz in Changamwe Sub-County and Utange in Kisauni Sub-County.“The three stations have already been well facilitated with trained health officers who are working around the clock to ensure residents are tested, contained and treated of cholera or any other diarrhoeal diseases,” said Dr Shirkely during the launch of the three stations at Majengo on Tuesday.Dr Shikely together with the County Health Director Dr Shem Pata engaged village elders in a consultative forum that aims at finding reliable solutions to health risks within the community.As part of recommendations, the community leaders suggested reintroducing community health inspectors who will be mandated with the task of ensuring homesteads as well as business premises adhere to public health standards as required by the law.
