All alcoholic selling joints near learning institutions in Uasin Gishu county may soon be shut down.
This is after the County Executive in charge of Education Joseph Kurgat proposed that no bar should be allowed to operate near schools.
Through a post on his official Facebook page, Kurgat lamented that bars near learning institutions were negatively impacting on the students.
"I am proposing that the county government closes all bars near learning centres because of this may create a negative mentality in the minds of our kids in curiosity on what happens in those places," he posted on his Facebook page.
"We have at times registered deaths of school children trying to get in those places and the only option for us now is to suspend such junctions in these institutions," he added.
Former National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) chair John Mututho had introduced a similar rule sometimes back but it's yet to be fully adhered to.
