Members of the Kisumu County Assembly have been angered by the failure by Education County Executive Jenifer Kere to honour summons to appear before the assembly.
Kere was expected to appear before the committee of the house on Tuesday afternoon but failed to show up instead writing a letter to the assembly.
The assembly's acting speaker Gabriel Amollo read the letter to the members who felt they were being belittled by the executive member.
In her letter, Kere said she was attending a cabinet meeting chaired by Governor Jack Ranguma and couldn't make it for the meeting and directed the assembly to summon her through the country secretary.
“The letter is addressed to Okola, one of the clerks instead to the office of the clerk and the tone of the letter is wanting,” he said.
The deputy majority leader John Olum said the assembly has been taken for granted by county executives and they have to show their might.
“This is the time to tell the executive members that this house must be respected, a summon is a summon and it is time Kere knows that we have some powers,” he said.
The assembly gave Kere another chance to appear before it Wednesday afternoon to explain why she had failed to honour the summons.
The MCAs felt that Kere had failed to show leadership in her docket and accused her of failing to give out bursary cheques to needy students across the county.
The chairman of ECDE committee Paul Achayo said his committee had lost faith in Kere and recommended for action to be taken against her. He said there are numerous shortfalls in the education sector that Kere had refused to address and must be shown the door to serve as an example.
“My committee has made several recommendations after the executive member failed to deliver on her mandate. It is time to kick her out,” he said.
The MCAs rejected a proposal by the Chief Whip Isaiah Onyango to meet the Governor before Kere is shown the door.
