County executives have expressed their utmost displeasure with their current pay. They want it increased, contending that such a move would massively reduce corruption in the country.The new salary structure brought into force by outgoing SRC chairperson Sarah Serem saw the salaries of county executives reduced from sh,350,000 to sh.259,875.SRC made the move on the grounds that the wage bill was unsustainably high at 52 % of domestic revenue.
''We need more pay since we are the most vulnerable.'' Mercy Kimanzi, Makueni Finance Executive said.County executives are appointed by governors and vetted by the Members of County Assemblies.David Ngugi, a former Nyandarua Member of Parliament, has spoken in favour of increasing the salaries of county executives, arguing that the move will help reduce corruption.
