Angry residents now want the tenders to be given exclusively to area locals and faulted the county government for allegedly going against the true spirit of devolution.

Speaking yesterday during a church service at Migosi SDA, civil rights activist Kilen Omondi accused the county government of failing to empower residents by awarding tenders to 'outsiders'.

“By awarding of tenders to Kisumu residents, we will be ensuring that money circulation within the county is enhanced and livelihoods here are developed,” said Omondi.

Omondi also challenged the county government to use existing available resources for development purposes as that was key in the devolution process.

“We should adopt a solar driven lighting for floodlights in Kisumu due to its cost effectiveness and not seek other power alternatives,” Omondi said.

Migosi MCA Paul Achayo also called on the county government to involve the local people who had various expertise in the development of Kisumu.

Alive Today Youth (ATY) group chairperson Robert Otieno, who was also present at the church service, called upon the county government to see devolution is fully implemented and residents have their say in the running of Kisumu County affairs.
