Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has said that his government will in this financial year largely focus on value addition in the agricultural sector.
The county boss has stated that he will oversee re-claiming of more land for agriculture as a means of eradicating the perennial food insecurity that has been affecting the region.
Jama who was speaking on Monday after visiting various farms supported by his regime said that trading in unprocessed agricultural products has cast farmers in the county into huge losses.
He revealed that plans were underway to construct a market at Soko Muqdi for farmers to sell their produce.
Jama further stated that his administration had already allocated Sh100 million for road maintenance to ease accessibility to agricultural areas.
Jama added that the through the ministry of agriculture, farmers will be offered with extension services and donation of farm inputs.
