A member of the Kisii County Assembly has accused the county leadership for allegedly delaying to release county development funds.

Speaking at his Kiogoro Ward on Wednesday, MCA Samuel Apoko said most activities in the ward had literally come to a standstill since the county government has allegedly not released the Sh8m ward development funds.

Apoko gave the county treasury a period of one week to credit the ward account before he marshals MCA to vote a motion of no confidence against senior treasury officials.

“As members of the county assembly, we are supposed to carry out certain projects and it is becoming very difficult because the treasury has not responded. We have o’t received an official communication to that effect and they risk facing our wrath if nothing is done in a week’s time,” said Apoko.

However, county assistant financial controller Irene Ombeki admitted the delay but blamed the stalemate on the national government.

“I want to say that the question is legitimate but we are not to be blamed. The national government has not sent any money to us thus the delay to fund certain projects,” said Ombeki.

Apoko said most projects that MCAs had launched had apparently come to a standstill and MCAs were facing a major revolt from residents.

“These are political offices and when such projects come to a halt, we are held liable. We cannot risk losing our seats just because someone somewhere is not doing their job,” he added.
