The residents, who have been expressing their grievances about that piece of land for a long time, narrated that they have been living there since childhood and they have nowhere else to call home.

Demonstrators say the land had been set aside by the county government for the purpose of building a public primary school as the area had been operating for years now without the facility.

According to the demonstrators, the county government officials have been arriving with a group of youth ready to construct a fence on the grabbed land.

The residents said that they had gone to the Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a offices earlier but they did not find help and so decided to walk to the governor’s office.

“We have walked to all the offices below the governor and they insult us instead of helping. We have decided not to relent until we get an appointment with the governor,” they explained.

The demonstrators spent the whole day on Tuesday sitting at the office gates which remained shut throughout the day.
