The county government of Uasin Gishu has adopted a mobile money payment system for parking fees. According to a local daily, the new system will ensure efficient and smooth collection of revenue in the coming days
The new development was adopted after the county government lost Sh5 million to the theft that saw 42 employees suspended for allegedly pocketing the said cash.
Motorists will now be expected to pay their parking fee through M-Pesa as the county government continues to put in place measures to curb revenue loss.
Speaking during a meeting where she led a team inducting motorists about the use of the new system, ICT executive Emily Kogos said that the county government is committed to ensuring that no single coin is lost during revenue collection, adding that only those who would have paid will enjoy parking services.
“This plan offers parking rights to only those who have paid,” Kogos said, as quoted by The Star.
She also said that police are probing the loss of the revenue within the four months period starting from July. Sources indicated that the suspects presented county government officials with fake banking slips
Chief finance officer Peter Chesos said that the officers have been sent parking to pave way for investigations into the loss of the cash.
