The county government of Kisii has been urged to establish a special kitty which will help educate and support orphans in children’s homes.

A group of youths which supports vulnerable women and children noted that a county kitty can help the children’s homes get money to educate the orphans.

The leader of Friends for Women and Children lobby group, Jim Okong’o said many supporters of children homes have withdrawn their funding leaving the homes at the mercy of well-wishers.

Speaking when he led members of the lobby group to visit Kerina Orphanage in Bonchari Sub-County on Monday, Okong’o said the county government can extend its support by creating a special kitty which will ensure the homes which take care of the orphans and vulnerable children, get money to educate and feed the needy.

“If a kitty is established at the county level, many well-wishers can be channelling their support through the kitty to ensure all children homes within the county, get support,” he added.

He observed that members of the community should also support the children homes through materials and social support.

“I call upon all people of good will to support these children since they have no parents and totally depend on other people. Let us support them to attain their education goals like other children,” said Okong’o.
