Machakos County has been urged to repossess and develop grabbed public stadium in Athi River to promote nurturing of talents in the region.
The call was made by Mavoko Sub-county Deputy Commissioner, Makori Kodeck, who said the national government was committed to ensuring that the Makadara Stadium was repossessed and developed.
Speaking to journalists in his office on Thursday, he said the public land had been grabbed by individuals and part of it sold out and developed to unsuspecting investors who did not know it was public land.
Kodeck said the grabbing act was against law since the public land had been set aside for the stadium hence need for it to serve the intended purpose.
He called on the county government to promptly intervene, engage with the national government to repossess and jointly develop the stadium.
The Deputy county commissioner however passed a stern warning to individuals who are fond of grabbing and selling out public land that they would be convicted to face full wrath of the law.
He further said all residents had to be law-compliant and work together to ensuring all individuals enjoyed their constitutional rights in the region.
