Kisii County government has been blamed for the existing and rising cases of witchcraft in the area.
Furious locals of Kisii say the government keeps protecting witches and giving tough punitive action against those found dealing with the witches.
They claim they receive massive protection from the government something that has made then immune.
“For how long will we have witchcraft in our land? The government says they are doing their best in taming witchcraft yet they are doing nothing to address the situation which is bad at the ground level,’’ said Christopher Munene.
The locals said the government also is aware of witches in the area.
“A government that does not even know the existence of witchcraft will deal with witchcraft in what way? They only come in to arrest those who try to deal with the witch doctors,’’ said Titus Mabonga.
They claim stiffer penalties face those who try to deal with the case of witchcraft than the witches themselves.
“The government seems to bother less in curbing this menace. They are reluctant in conducting investigations to root out the witches. To them this issue is minor and does not pose any threat yet we the locals have suffered at the hands of the witches,’’ said Alfred Bagaka.
They now want the county government to take swift action to address the issue.
“We are now worried to take action against the witches since they receive massive protection from the government. The county government should address the issue of witchcraft urgently,’’ said Milkah Obuya.
