The Kisumu county government has put suppliers on spot for late deliveries of goods and services, something that the county government cites as a reason for some stalled projects in the county.
According to Alex Ayatta, who is the County Procurement Officer, late deliveries is hitting at the county operations and is blaming all these on non-compliant suppliers who are just there to rip from where they have not sown.
Mr Ayatta further claims some suppliers end up delivering sub-standard goods after being subjected to pressure to deliver goods, something he says is against procurement laws and is in contravention to contractual terms that the suppliers commit themselves to.
"Most of our service delivery initiatives have not been able to produce desirable results as we have in many instances been starved of very important supplies. We have been going through this for long," lamented the procurement chief.
However, we warned that all the contracts of those suppliers who have never been cooperative with the county government may soon be terminated.
"The county government will soon review all the agreements we signed with various suppliers with a view of terminating the contracts of all those who have been breaching the contents of the agreements. We cannot continue with these kind of deals that are breached at will," he added.
He further reiterated that the county government will not entertain non-compliance in future and that they are ready to make unpopular decisions to make the lives of Kisumu residents better.
