The County Government of Kiambu has distanced itself from the ongoing allegations that it was behind the closure of two brewer companies.
Mizizi and Croton located in Gatunda are manufactures of Karubu beer that have all been closed down for the past one and half weeks.
Dominic Gicheru who is the Kiambu county chief public officer said that the two companies have employed many people and the county government was not responsible for their closure.
"The County Government is not out there to fight genuine brewers like Mizizi and Croton. We are fighting the illicit brewers and also the counterfeit which are killing our people and also increasing the levels of poverty in this county,” Gicheru said.
Gicheru went ahead and urged all those who were spreading rumors to shun from doing it and help the county government in doing developments.
"Those who are saying that are enemies of this county and the ones who do not want to see the county developing. There is no way the county government can close such companies which all provides employment to the local people and they produce genuine and licensed brews,” GIcheru said.
Gicheru went ahead and said that the fight against illicit brews and counterfeit drinks had intensified. He said that anyone who is caught up in the practice would face the law.
