A section of Nakuru residents have expressed concern after a revelation that a dog has been earmarked Sh100,000 monthly upkeep.
“This is totally an acceptable. Who is important, a dog or a common man? I hardly get Sh800 monthly upkeep,” said Simon Njuguna, a Nakuru loader at Wakulima Market .
The residents were reacting to news that four dogs at Rift Valley Police Dogs Unit in Nakuru Town that are destined to Laikipia have earmarked Sh100,000 each monthly upkeep .
The residents were enraged by the news and said that it was shocking to see thousands of Kenyans from famine -stricken areas going to bed empty stomachs while hefty sums of money were being allocated to dogs.
“Thousands of Kenyans are faced with starvation due to famine. Why not give the cash to these residents?” asked Monica Wangari , a tea vendor , Nakuru Town .
Speaking today at Nakuru Town , the residents called for prudent use of public resources to tackle the challenges facing Kenyans.
“Taxpayers resources should not be used for petty projects but should be directed at improving the lives of Kenyans,” said Jackson Owiti , a parent in Bondeni Estate.
The residents say the nation is undergoing tough times especially for cancer patients who are finding hard to make ends meet due to lack of cash.
The four dogs christened Mobi, Techno , Shelby and Twitter were purchased by Laikipia county government from Nakuru county government to help in curbing cattle rustling in Laikipia.
