Kamenu Ward MCA Elizabeth Muthoni has lauded the Kiambu County Government for rolling out a school feeding program in all Early Childhood Education (ECDE) centres across the county.
Muthoni said that the ECD centre kids will now be served with nutritional porridge daily that will not only boost their health but enable them to learn well.
Speaking in Kamenu Shopping Centre on Wednesday, Muthoni noted that the feeding program will in the long-run improve education at the ECD centres in the county.
"This is a noble program that can only be found in few counties and we are glad to be among them. Our ECD kids especially those who come from poor backgrounds will now be able to learn well as they will not be on empty stomachs," said Muthoni.
She further noted that the ECDs had also been provided with mattresses where the kids can sleep on in the afternoons after classes.
"Our ECD kids have been lying on pavements or bare ground when the need to sleep comes but am told they have also received mattresses for that purpose which is another positive move," she said.
The MCA said that the same feeding program was soon going to be introduced in special needs schools which she said was a right step towards raising education standards in Kiambu County.
