Garissa County government has announced plans to introduce free feeding programmes for children enrolled in the Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE).
According to a county official at the ECDE, the new development is meant to encourage parents to take their children to schools to get an education.
"Plans are at an advanced stage by the Department of Early Childhood Education to offer free feeding programme for children in ECDE. This is in line with the county's development plans for the next 5 years," said the official who opted to remain anonymous.
Other plans by Garissa County to streamline early childhood education include the development of customised teaching and learning resources for the children, increased awareness through sensitisation campaigns on enrollment that is expected to fill the gap by increasing demand and supply for early childhood education.
As a show of commitment by the county management, the county has to date employed a total of 172 ECDE caregivers (teachers) and also constructed a total of 176 classrooms across the entire county that has since reached completion.
