The fund, he says, is to cater for emergencies that occur from time to time.

Njoroge has said that it is discouraging to see people resorting to fundraisers whenever disasters like fire strike.

"I would like to request the county government to start taking the matter of emergencies seriously. Let us have them set aside some money for the purpose," Njoroge said.

"The other day we saw the governor in a fundraiser in Molo where a house had burnt with two kids dying. That should serve as an eye-opener that we indeed need money for emergencies," he added.

Njoroge who was speaking in Nakuru yesterday cited two cases of a man and a woman in his ward whose houses burnt down last week and they were forced to seek refuge in their neighbourhood.

"The two are now homeless and when you go looking for money from the county government to assist them you are told there is no money set aside for such things," he said.

He further observed that disaster preparedness in the county is wanting and it is time the county government pulled up its socks.
