The Nakuru County government and the State have been asked to set aside some funds to be used in feeding some Subukia residents.
This is after their maize crops were destroyed by the deadly Maize Lethal Necrosis Disease (MLND).
Subukia MCA Peter Njoroge says that there is a risk of a big number of people facing hunger if both governments do not provide them with relief food.
“There is a very deadly maize disease that has come to Rift Valley. I am requesting the governor, even though there is scarcity of funds, to think about Subukia people," said Njoroge.
The MCA added that the farmers need to be sensitised about the disease as it is new in the area.
“The ministry of agriculture must educate the farmers about the dangers of this disease to avert further losses," he added.
Njoroge was speaking in his Subukia Ward on Thursday.
MLND is a viral disease that can be prevented through containing the insects that spread the disease through insecticide application.
