Residents of Garissa county relying on livestock as a means of livelihood have reasons to smile after the Livestock executive Issa Yarrow promised to revamp the sector.According to the Star, close to 98 percent of the residents rely on livestock farming to generate income. Addressing journalists after taking an oath of office, the CEC said that has good plans for the residents in the next five years of his leadership.The new CEC said that he will soon roll out a five-year action plan to change the lives of the residents. Issa said that his department will develop a livestock policy to stir the economy of the region“The livestock sector is the backbone of the county. We need an Act that will protect all we intend to do. We also don’t want to do things that may be challenged in law,” Issa said.Issa said that he intends to set up markets in all the six sub-counties and establish cooperative societies for farmers, who have been lamenting of lack of goodwill from the past regimes.The new county official also said that there are plans to develop a dairy milk processing plant for packaging farmers’ products.
